What's possible with AI generated music?
+ 6 more additions to the database
G’day folks!
Generative AI is coming for more and more creative industries and the next one in the firing line for a complete upheaval is music.
Today we’ll learn about the startup leading the way and some of the ways people can start to use it.
Let’s get to it.
How does it work?
To start let’s get s rough idea on how an AI can actually create music.
AI Music is created by computer programs that analyze patterns in existing music. After studying many songs, the AI can then generate new musical compositions that sound similar to what it has learned, without needing the human.
If you want to know how it works, here are the steps:
The AI gets trained on a large amount of music.
It learns pattern, structure, melodies and harmony.
Based on the training the AI learns to identify the key elements that make up a song in a particular style or genre.
When asked, the AI can now generate an original piece of music containing the elements that is knows from it’s training.
Whilst the song shares similarities with existing music, the new song will be entirely unique.
Now that we know how it’s done, what products are out there that we can use.
Well right now there’s two good ones, Suno and Stable Audio (with a third, potentially even more powerful one incoming).
Meet Suno
The tag line for Suno ‘Make any song you can imagine’, is a bold one, but right now it’s on point.
Hearing a song that was generated by Suno goes up there with the holy shit moments of ChatGPT for text and Midjourney for images.
The music that it generates is truly incredible.
Check one out here or if you want to create some songs for yourself, head to https://www.suno.ai/, create an account and start making music.
Simply describe the song and away you go.
If you want to get even more into the weeds you can even toggle on advanced mode and enter lyrics, the title and style of music.
Whats possible?
Right now, to create songs with Suno you have to login but soon you’ll be able fully automate the creation of music, fully on-demand using an API.
This will allow you to connect Suno to other applications so that a song is created when something else happens in another app. Using Zapier or Make will be the likely way to connect these together.
Once that happens. heres some ideas that could be worth thinking about:
Personalised music for videos and podcasts
Adaptive, on-demand music for games and apps
Personalized music for advertising
Data-driven personalized music recommendations
Therapeutic generative music for healthcare
New music-based applications
In the near future we’ll be able to create music that dynamically changes according to our reaction to it. Playlists that get created and evolve in real-time, shifting according to the emotional reaction of the listener and goal of the creator.
Fully synthetic and dynamic DJ sets.
If you want to watch a good video on Suno, here’s an excellent conversation with the Founder of Suno Mikey Shulman.
